We invented unlimited design, and now we're killing it

Where our 'unlimited design' promise began.

The truth always wins. Being authentic, transparent, and real is how you build lasting relationships with your audience.”

— Gary Vaynerchuk

In 2015, I launched Design Pickle – the first-ever productized design service of its kind. A simple promise, packaged in a flat-rate subscription, that offered what no one else dared:

Unlimited Graphic Design.

It was disruptive. Click-worthy. Bold.

And yes – also a little confusing.

We knew the tagline was powerful. But behind the scenes, it wasn’t so simple.

Prospects would ask, “How can you really offer unlimited designs?”

The answer? “You can request as much as you want… but we can only deliver so much per day.”

It wasn’t a lie. But it wasn’t the whole truth either.

For years, we ran with it. SEO gold. Sales firepower. We ranked #1 for the term and rode the wave all the way to scale.

Some clients understood and thrived. Others felt misled. The promise didn’t match the reality, and it chipped away at the trust we were trying to build.

Why unlimited design is a myth in creative services.

With success came copycats. Soon, the world was filled with “unlimited design” companies using the same bait-and-switch playbook. The problem? Everyone knew it was a stretch.

The real truth:

There is no such thing as unlimited.

Not in creative services. Not in bandwidth. Not in business. As clients came aboard, there were missed expectations with the reality of what we did clashed with how we marketed it.

And we had to ask ourselves a hard question:

Were we leading with hype – or with honesty?

So we made the call. Retire “unlimited”.

On June 2, 2025, we officially dropped the term from our brand. We had been slowly killing it from sales conversations and marketing copy for a few years prior, but we knew it was time to finally leave the statement behind.

And that was hard.

We knew we’d lose search traffic.

We knew competitors would keep running with it.

And let’s be honest – “unlimited” just sounds freaking cool.

But we also knew something else:

The most powerful brands are the most authentic ones.

So we traded clever for clear.

Flashy for functional.

Short-term wins for long-term trust.

A new, honest approach to creative service pricing.

Instead of promising the impossible, we now guide every prospect through a radically simple and honest buying path:

  • What type of software experience do you need?
  • How many hours of help per day?
  • What kind of professional services are you looking for?

That’s it.

No games. No gimmicks. Just straightforward questions that lead to a straightforward solution.

We also killed discounting for good. Instead of backroom pricing deals or mystery markups, we now price based solely on one thing: commitment (read more about this from our VP of Revenue).

Monthly = pay more. Annual = pay less.

(Shoutout to Chilipiper for inspiring this shift with their bold approach to SaaS pricing.)

The outcome of moving away from unlimited design promises.

The response has been incredible.

  • Prospects understand what they’re getting – instantly.
  • Sales conversations are faster, easier, and more aligned.
  • Clients know what to expect – and we deliver.

No over-promising. No smoke and mirrors. Just a platform, a team, and a process that works. We’re only a few weeks in, but I’ll continue to share the results and lessons learned from these decisions.

At the end of the day, we know we’re in a league of our own pushing the market to a place that meets clients where they want to be, and treats them with integrity and honesty.

A final word to the “unlimited” crowd.

Now that we’ve moved on, I am certain there will be many competitors still running with “Unlimited Graphic Design” and throwing unsustainable discounts at every deal… we wish you the best!

But we’re not playing that game anymore.

We’re building a real, scalable, sustainable creative company – and partnering with clients who value truth, professionalism, and long-term success over short-term hype.

Our future clients and partners are brands, leaders, marketers, and agencies who want to know what they are getting, how much it costs, and partner with a brand that holds themselves up with truth and integrity.

Truth over tactics. Always.

As we grow and learn, I’ll continue to share these insights as well. I’m excited for the work our teams have done to enter into this next chapter. And if you’re looking for a dedicated creative team, you can trust, we’d love to connect.

Welcome to the new Design Pickle.
